Rick Barnes recaps Vols’ loss at Auburn

Tennessee lost, 77-72, Saturday at Auburn.

On if its too much to think that Keon could be more of a post presence:

“I can assure you that we’re going to work on that some more. We’ve given these other guys more than enough time to do it. We have some things, but maybe this week will give us a chance to do some of that.”

On how he asses the defensive performance in the second half:

“A couple of guys I thought—Keon’s play was a break down and plays like that happen. It’s still the one- on-one defense. I didn’t think VJ (Victor Bailey Jr.) was effective at all on the defensive end. He kept getting blown by. I thought Santi tried to battle and do some things, but overall—obviously we were fouling. With Flannigan, everyone knows he wants to go left, everyone knows it. They know it and to keep letting him get to his strong hand is just not being locked in on the scouting report. That goes back to two words, ‘Mental toughness.’”

On how hard it makes his job when the most mentally tough guys on the team are freshmen and not upper classmen:

“It’s the hardest thing you can do. It’s one of the hardest things for coaches to accept. It’s just hard to accept. It almost makes you sick to your stomach.”
