The New England Patriots running game struggled over the course of the preseason. Establishing a new offensive system, as well as getting adjusted with new pieces led to Mac Jones looking uncomfortable.
In addition, the offensive line looked out of place at times. Nevertheless, running back Rhamondre Stevenson still has high hopes for the unit.
He had a stellar rookie season in 2021, serving as the complementary running back to Damien Harris. Now, Stevenson is looking to build off that, as well as becoming more involved in the passing game. His primary focus is looking to boost a rushing attack that ranked eighth in the NFL with 144.4 yards per game last season, per TeamRankings.com.
Despite the outside concerns, Stevenson does not seem to share those same feelings.
“The beginning of the camp and things like that, we were working on the run game and seeing what we need to fix,” said Stevenson, via NESN’s Dakota Randall. “But now, a week away, I feel like we got — we’re pretty confident in our run, that’s all I’ll say. We’re pretty confident with it.”
New England will have an opportunity to run against a Miami Dolphins defense that gave up 109.8 rushing yards per game in 2021. Sunday’s game could be an opportunity for the Patriots to put their preseason rushing woes behind them.
