Rey Mysterio mentions possible mask vs. hair match with Dominik

Alas, just being bald would probably not be enough to stop Prison Dom.

When Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio met in the ring at WrestleMania 39, it promised to end the long-running saga that began when Dom turned on his father to join The Judgment Day and badgered him for a fight for months. Surely, Rey’s victory at SoFi Stadium would finish things between them.

Spoiler: It did not.

That became apparent the night after WrestleMania, when Dominik interfered in Rey’s match with Austin Theory. The younger Mysterio has since been on TV continuing to call the elder a deadbeat dad (which is honestly getting pretty tired at this point), leading one to wonder what, if anything, can finally put their family feud to bed.

Rey might have the answer. He was recently a guest on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive podcast, and he threw out an idea for a match stipulation steeped in Mexican wrestling culture that might be the perfect way to wrap things up between the Mysterios (h/t Cageside Seats for the transcription).

Maybe I put my mask on the line against his hair, which is some lucha culture, and if I lose I take my mask off and if he loses he shaves his hair off. That might be interesting. He talks a lot of crap so why not? Back it up.

When pressed on whether it was a done deal, Rey admitted it wasn’t but did say he would “pitch it out.” So you’re telling me there’s a chance … ?

Mask vs. Mask matches are pretty common on the lucha scene, and Mask vs. Hair bouts fill that same niche when one party is already unmasked (or never wore one). Rey has won a number of matches with these stipulations over the course of his illustrious career, but also lost one. During his time in WCW, Mysterio and Konnan lost a Mask vs. Hair match to The Outsiders, and he appeared without a mask for several years before signing with WWE.

Rey has been vocal about how he felt that was a mistake, especially losing his mask to someone outside lucha culture. WWE has booked him respectfully in that sense, as he’s had his mask on the line several times against the likes of Kane and Chris Jericho and always came out on top.

The assumption is that would continue if a Mysterio family Mask vs. Hair match does come together, and that Dominik would just take his “Prison Dom” persona to the next level once he was bald. It’s certainly an idea to file away while the next chapter in this lengthy drama plays out.
