Rex Ryan promised he’d keep Aaron Rodgers’ ego in check if the Jets hire him as coach

Rodgers vs. Ryan. Pure chaos.

Somebody tell Rex Ryan that election season is over. It’s safe to say he didn’t get the message considering how hard he’s campaigning for the Jets’ head coaching job.

Ryan is trying his hardest to throw his name into the hat Jack and Brick will use to pick out the Jets’ new head coach when the time comes. He’s been publicly begging the Jets to hire him as the team’s next head coach, which is hilarious considering how horribly things ended between the two sides. Why anyone would want to run that back is beyond me.

But, alas. We’re here. Ryan is making his case and is even reportedly interviewing for the job.

One of his selling points? No more Aaron Rodgers running the show.

The future Hall of Fame quarterback has been the headline for New York football over the last two years, mostly for all the wrong reasons. He’s been a headache since joining the Jets.

AND HE’S NOT DONE: At least, not with us, anyway. Sunday wasn’t the last you’ll see of Aaron Rodgers.

Ryan says the Rodgers “country club” is done if he gets in the building, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

“If he comes back, things would be different. If he’s back, it ain’t gonna be the country club, show up whenever the hell you want to show up. That ain’t gonna happen. I’ll just leave it at that.”

Ryan isn’t telling Rodgers to take a hike. But he’s kind of telling Rodgers to take a hike.

The only way Aaron Rodgers wants to keep playing football is if he’s got a bit more control than normal over the situation. Ryan wants to take away that control. It’s hard to see a quarterback as, uh, decorated as Rodgers is being receptive to that. Especially not coming from someone like Ryan, who isn’t exactly known for his success in New York.

I don’t know about y’all, but I’m rooting chaos. Hire Rex and keep Rodgers. That’s the way forward, New York. It might not win you a Super Bowl, but it’d sure be must-see-TV.

Get the Jets on Hard Knocks ASAP.
