Re-signing Joe Harris ‘Priority No. 1’ for Sean Marks this offseason

Brooklyn sharpshooter Joe Harris is set to become a free agent this offseason, but the Nets don’t plan to watch him suit up elsewhere.

Although he wasn’t shooting quite as well from 3-point territory before the NBA went on hiatus in March as he did in 2018-19, Joe Harris was still shooting an impressive 41.2% from long-range.

Inside the Disney bubble, Harris is shooting a whopping 57.6% from deep throughout the five games he’s played.

Entering Thursday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers, Brooklyn’s sharpshooter is sixth in the NBA in 3-point percentage (42.5%) after leading the league in 2018-19 (47.4%).

Harris is unquestionably one of the game’s best deep threats, making him a valuable asset for any club, given long-range shooting has become one of the most valued skills in the game — if not the definitive, most important skill. So, Harris should be part of the Nets’ long-term plans.

But, he’s set to become a free agent after 2019-20. He’ll likely have other suitors in addition to Brooklyn.

Nets general manager Sean Marks expressed on YES Network, per Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News, on Thursday that he has no intention of seeing Harris suit up for another team:

Priority number one. It’s that simple, yeah. We’re obviously very proud of where Joe has come from. And where he is today. And he still continues to get better. (He) still wants to work on his craft. So, yeah, signing him and seeing him with this group will certainly be a priority for us.
