Resident Evil 4 VR gets fan-favorite The Mercenaries mode in free update

Whether Krauser will be ridiculously overpowered in this version is unclear.

One of the best minigames ever is now available in Resident Evil 4 VR.

On Wednesday, Meta Quest announced that Resident Evil 4 VR is finally getting The Mercenaries mode in a free update. Not only that, but other new additions like Classic Horror Mode, Big Head Mode, online leaderboards, and several gold weapons are also part of the update.

The Mercenaries distills Resident Evil 4’s combat into wild, fast-paced tussles with swarms of pitchfork-wielding enemies. The clock constantly counts down, and gaining high scores means you have to blitz as many bad guys as possible. Check out the trailer below to see what Resident Evil 4 VR’s take on The Mercenaries.

It certainly looks like vintage Resident Evil 4 Mercenaries. Just with, you know, the first-person perspective completely changing everything. Hopefully, nobody ends up suplexing their significant other while playing.

It’s been 17 years since Resident Evil 4 came out, and people are still talking about the game as if it came out yesterday. Fans made an incredible high-resolution mod for the PC version earlier this year. Then there’s the yet-to-be-revealed remake, which Resident Evil 4 director Shinji Mikami hopes has better writing than his original script.
