Reports: Nugs to land Gordon; Celtics expected to use TPE to sign Fournier alone

It seems the Celtics have dropped out of the Aaron Gordon sweepstakes.

While the Boston Celtics appear to be out of the running for Orlando Magic star Aaron Gordon, it appears their trade for his soon-to-be-former teammate Evan Fournier will be a separate deal.

The Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach relates that “Boston is expected to use its $28.5 million trade exception that was created in the Gordon Hayward sign-and-trade” to land Fournier and the trade is “not expected to be part of a larger deal involving Magic forward Aaron Gordon, who is expected to be one of the prizes of this trade market.” And with news from the Athletic’s Shams Charania that the Denver Nuggets will be trading for the Californian, it seems that option is extinguished.

Teams have until 3 p.m. today eastern time to call in any deals they hope to make, so clarity on Boston’s plans will be forthcoming by this evening.

Expect frequent updates to this rapidly-changing, breaking trade news.
