Wednesday afternoon, Wisconsin announced that student-athletes in fall sports will be wearing a Wisconsin crest with a black “W” on their uniforms to show the University’s solidarity with minority students on campus. Wisconsin Athletic Director, Barry Alvarez, affirmed his commitment to supporting student-athletes and to take meaningful steps to address diversity and inclusion in the athletic department.
The movement to include the black “W” crest on uniforms was started and spread by Madison Cone, Armoni Brown, Faion Hicks, and other fellow student-athletes. The post from Cone was quickly seen and reposted by his teammates, as well as many other student-athletes on campus. The movement culminated in the Wisconsin Athletic Department approving the player’s request.
