It’s been a busy offseason for one member of Steve Kerr’s Golden State Warriors coaching staff.
Since the Warriors ended their season in March, assistant coach Mike Brown has interviewed for two vacant head coaching positions.
Prior to their hiring of Tom Thibodeau, Brown had an interview with the New York Knicks. Following his interview in The Big Apple, Golden State’s associate head coach interviewed for the Indiana Pacers opening.
With more teams freeing up head coaching positions, Brown’s series of interviews isn’t over yet. On Tuesday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported Brown had a head coaching interview with the Los Angeles Clippers “in recent days.”

Although Doc Rivers’ run to the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, the Clippers decided to move on from the veteran coach after his squad was bounced in the second round of the playoffs.
Before joining Kerr’s staff in Golden State, Brown served as a head coach for the Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers. In eight years as a head coach, Brown filed a 347-216 overall record. After punching a 66-16 record with LeBron James and the Cavaliers in 2009, Brown was named NBA Coach of the Year.
When Kerr had to leave the bench due to a back injury in 2017, Brown filled in as the Warriors acting head coach. Brown helped push the Warriors to a 12-0 record in the postseason. Kerr rejoined Brown on the bench for the Warriors NBA Finals victory over the Cavaliers in five games.
Brown’s path to the Clippers coaching position won’t be easy, as Los Angeles assistant Tyronn Lue is in a “strong position” to land the job, per Wojnarowski.
If he does stick in Los Angeles, Brown will have to compete with Kerr and the Warriors in the race to the top of the Western Conference.
