Report: Vikings not to tender CB Chris Jones

The Minnesota Vikings have elected not to tender exclusive rights free agent CB Chris Jones, according to a report.

The Vikings have a deep free agency class this year.

There are unrestricted free agents like S Anthony Harris and LB Eric Wilson, both of whom will be hard for the team to keep. There are some restricted free agents as well, like DE Ifeadi Odenigbo and RB Mike Boone.

Minnesota also has an exclusive rights free agent: CB Chris Jones. It appears that the team will be moving on from Jones. Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press reported that the Vikings have elected not to tender the cornerback.

“Last year didn’t pan out to be what I hoped for, but it was all lessons and I’m excited for the future,” Jones told Tomasson.

Jones served as depth at corner in 2020. He started three games and played in eight, tallying 18 solo tackles. Minnesota has also released CB Tae Hayes and CB Cordrea Tankersley, so the cornerback group will look quite different near the bottom of the depth chart next season. The Vikings released TE Kyle Rudolph, too.
