Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins seems like a strong candidate to receive an extension.
Cousins is entering the final year of his contract, and extending him could lessen the cap hit his current contract takes on this season.
However, according to ESPN, talks of an extension have yet to see an agreement from both sides. Minnesota has come to Cousins with offers, but the two sides have yet to agree on a number, per ESPN.
Here’s what the outlet said about the ongoing talks:
“Could an extension happen down the road? Sure. But it’s more likely that Cousins, who created substantial leverage for himself with a strong 2019 season, is going to wait to see what other quarterbacks make in free agency — particularly Dak Prescott — before agreeing to anything.”
Cousins does have leverage, sure, but hopefully he realizes that the Vikings need cap space sooner rather than later, and agrees to a number pretty quickly.
