We’ve written a few times on this site how tackle Trent Williams might be a fit for the offensive line-needy Vikings.
Williams is currently with the Redskins and wants out. Could the Vikings be a fit?
John Keim over at ESPN says yes. Keim reports that the Vikings “have shown interest in adding Williams.”
How would this work?
The Vikings have $13.1 million in cap space, per Over The Cap. Williams has a $14.5 million cap hit in 2020. If the Vikings end up trading safety Anthony Harris for Williams, or in another deal to acquire picks, they’d shed $11.441 million, which would open up plenty of space for Williams, but the Vikings are also losing a Pro Bowl-caliber playerin Harris.
The Vikings cut guard Josh Kline this offseason in a move that has people speculating that Riley Reiff will move to guard, thus opening up the left tackle spot for someone.
Williams, 31, is in the final year of his contract, so the hope would be that he would sign a longer-term deal with the team after a trade.
Williams missed the 2019 season after a surgery to remove a growth on his head, but made seven-straight Pro Bowls prior to that.
