Report: Vikings finalizing multi-year extension with Minnesota GM Rick Spielman

The Vikings extended coach Mike Zimmer earlier this offseason. Now, Minnesota’s general manager is reportedly locked up, too.

The Vikings finalized a multi-year deal with their head coach, Mike Zimmer, earlier this offseason.

According to a report from Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Vikings are also locking in the team’s general manager, Rick Spielman.

Pelissero reported that the Vikings are finalizing a multi-year contract extension with Spielman.

Zimmer signed a three-year contract extension with the Vikings. The Minnesota coach is entering his seventh season at the helm.

Spielman has been around Minnesota longer. He was hired by the Vikings in 2006 as vice president of player personnel and later became the first true general manager for the team since the 1980’s, according to NFL.com.

Spielman has become well known for finding value in the draft. You can take a look at the Vikings’ most valuable draft picks of the last decade, as determined by Pro Football Reference, which isn’t a perfect science, but is interesting to see compiled.
