Report: Vikings DE D.J. Wonnum and RT Brian O’Neill had false positive COVID-19 tests

Vikings DE D.J. Wonnum and RT Brian O’Neill were back at practice Thursday.

The Vikings had some key players out from practice Wednesday.

Minnesota DE D.J. Wonnum and RT Brian O’Neill both tested positive for COVID-19 — but those tests proved to be false positives, according to a report.

Per Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press, Minnesota got Wonnum and O’Neill back at practice on Thursday after the testing.

On Wednesday, there were two other players who were out from practice but did not have injuries: CB Mackensie Alexander and TE Chris Herndon. Those two were both back in practice, though it hasn’t been reported whether those absences were related to COVID-19 protocols or not.

The Vikings already lack depth at defensive end after Danielle Hunter went down with an injury. Wonnum being back is a big help. Minnesota’s corner depth may get better this week, though: Patrick Peterson was back practicing on Thursday.

The Vikings moved to 4-5 with the win over the Chargers Sunday. Minnesota heads back to U.S. Bank Stadium this week to play Green Bay on Sunday.
