John Elway stepped down from his general manager position with the Broncos this week.
What does this have to do with Minnesota? Well, the Vikings assistant GM is reportedly getting requested to interview with the Broncos for the now-open GM role.
Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Denver is sending in a request to interview George Paton, Minnesota’s Assistant GM and VP of Player Personnel.
“When that new GM comes in, he’s going to come in and make his own assessment of where we are, and I think it’s going to be great for us in the fact it’ll be a different perspective for us too,” Elway said, via our friends at Broncos Wire.
An article written by Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo mentions that the Lions are interested in Paton for the GM job as well.
In 2020, Paton just finished up his 14th season with the Vikings, working under Rick Spielman. Minnesota’s front office might draw ire from certain parts of the Minnesota fan base, but the group has been known for finding value in the late stages of the NFL draft and acquiring talent through undrafted free agency.
Paton and the rest of the front office have done a decent job in Minnesota, so it makes sense that at least a couple NFL teams are interested.
