As predicted a bit, the upcoming NFL trade deadline is already being felt days before it comes around. Everson Griffen went from the Cowboys to the Lions while Carolos Dunlap is no longer on the Bengals, he’s heading to the Seahawks as of reports on Wednesday.

Griffen and Dunlap are some of the first dominos to fall in terms of defensive line movement. Who could be next? Reportedly the Bills’ Trent Murphy might be near the top of that list. Per ESPN’s Dan Graziano, Murphy’s name has been “discussed” in regard to potential deals that could be en route.

In addition, the report also indicates that the Falcons’ Takk McKinley could also be on the move.

Murphy, 29, is in the final year of a three-year contract he signed with the Bills worth $22.5 million. Prior to joining the Bills, Murphy suffered an ACL injury with Washington and missed the entire season the year before signing with the Bills. Buffalo had hoped Murphy would return to form, but during his tenure, Murphy mostly has not.

He did have two sacks in Buffalo’s playoff loss to the Texans last season, but overall, Murphy underwhelmed throughout 2019 and in 2020 as well. Murphy has 1.5 sacks in six games played this year, having been a healthy scratch in one outing as well.

In terms of what the Bills could get for Murphy, it’s anyone’s guess. The Seahawks sent linebacker B.J. Finney and a seventh-round pick to the Bengals for Dunlap while the Cowboys got =a conditional sixth-round draft pick in 2021 that could become a fifth-rounder from the Lions for Griffen. Both of those players are older, but Murphy hasn’t been as productive in his career overall.
