It’s probably safe to say top Junior College transfer Jay Scrubb’s last name is something of a misnomer when it comes to the sport of basketball, but whether the Boston Celtics’ front office thinks he’s got what they are looking for in the 2020 NBA Draft is an entirely different story.
However, he’s made a very good impression in his pre-draft virtual meeting with the team according to Fortune Sports’ Chris Grenham.
Initially committed to Louisville, Grenham reports the 6-foot-6 shooting guard has elected to remain in the draft instead.
An athletic wing in the traditional 3-and-D mold mocked in the back end of the second round or later, Scrubb figures to be a target for Boston’s No. 47 pick, owed them by the Brooklyn Nets.
Top JUCO recruit Jay Scrubb made a great impression on the Celtics during their virtual pre-draft meeting, per source.
Scrubb was committed to Louisville before opting to stay in the draft this spring. Solid 3-and-D potential with great athleticism. Really intriguing prospect.

Scrubb averaged 21.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game with the John A. Logan College Volunteers while shooting 33.3% from deep and 50.1% overall.
20 years old and a sturdy 220 pounds, Scrubb has the sort of muscular, athletic build the Celtics have favored in prospects in recent years, the Louisville, Kentucky native a prospect to keep an eye on for Boston on draft night.
