While the Indianapolis Colts are moving forward with their new quarterback in Philip Rivers, there was interest from Tom Brady’s camp in joining the horseshoe.
A free agent for the first time in his career, Brady left the New England Patriots behind for the sun and humidity in Tampa Bay. Before that, though, Brady and his team reportedly had interest in joining the Colts, per Peter King of NBC Sports. Though their interest in Rivers forced him in other directions.
“Though the Brady camp had interest in Indianapolis, the Colts seemed to be set on Philip Rivers on a shorter deal,” wrote King in his FMIA column on Monday morning.
Given the state of the Colts offensive line and their commitment to running the football, it is no surprise that Brady had interest in joining Indy. It would be a perfect landing spot for him, especially after they made the trade for DeForest Buckner.
The Colts stuck with their plan of signing Rivers, though, which was made official on Saturday. They will now move forward with him and Jacoby Brissett for the time being as both take on $25 million and $21.3 million salary cap hits for the 2020 season, respectively.
Brady wound up signing with the Buccaneers in what has been a wild offseason for NFL free agency, but we know now there was some interest in his camp to join the Colts.
