After spending the last three seasons with the Tennessee Titans and spending an extended amount of time on the free-agent market in 2020, inside linebacker Daren Bates has finally found a new home.
According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, the Houston Texans are signing the special teams ace following a tryout on Saturday.
Bates totaled 10 tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovered for the Titans in 2019. He played 11 snaps on defense and 291 on special teams.
Being that he’s remaining in the same division, Bates will now face his former mates twice this coming season. The Titans square off with the Texans in Week 6 at home and Week 17 on the road.
Prior to joining the Titans in 2017, the 29-year-old spent his first three seasons in the NFL with the St. Louis (now Los Angeles) Rams, the team that signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn, and then one with the Oakland (now Las Vegas) Raiders.
