The Houston Texans continue to make moves as they prepare for the new league year on March 17.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Texans are signing former Seattle Seahawks center Justin Britt to a one-year contract worth $5 million.
Britt has been out of football since October of 2019 when he was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury after the Seahawks’ first eight games. In late April of 2020, the Seahawks released the former 2014 second-round pick from Missouri.
The 6-6, 315-pound center started out as a right tackle for the Seahawks in 2014, starting all 16 games at the bookend position. In 2015, Britt moved to left guard for another 16 starts until transitioning to center in 2016 where he played 55 games over the next three and a half seasons.
The Texans are in the need for veteran leadership along their interior offensive line after the releases of guard Senio Kelemete and center Nick Martin.
