Report: Texans have formal meeting set with Florida QB Anthony Richardson

The Houston Texans have a formal meeting scheduled with Florida QB Anthony Richardson at the NFL combine.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Houston Texans are performing their due diligence when it comes to the 2023 NFL draft crop of quarterbacks.

According to Aaron Wilson from KPRC-TV, the Texans have a formal meeting setup with Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson at the NFL combine.

Naturally Richardson has other meetings setup with other NFL teams; the Texans are one of many teams.

Nevertheless the Texans are taking a comprehensive approach when it comes to the quarterback class. Although the Texans are a favorite to take Alabama’s Bryce Young with the No. 2 overall pick, the combine is Richardson’s opportunity to rise in the ranks. Young will only throw at his pro day, not the combine, which gives Richardson more of the spotlight to showcase his on-field talents.

General manager Nick Caserio said on Feb. 28 that the Texans aren’t going to get tunnel vision when it comes to evaluating the quarterback position.

“You’re making decisions based on what you think is best for your organization and your team,” said Caserio. “We have 50 players on the team, give or take, so we’re going to add 40 players to the team. We’re probably going to add, I don’t know, 15 or 20 in free agency, give or take. Maybe a little more, maybe a little less. Probably a little less. Right now, we have 11 draft picks, so call it 10 to 12 draft picks. Then, however many players we sign after free agency.”

Richardson is scheduled to meet with the media at the combine on March 3.
