The Houston Texans are focusing on special teams as free agency is warming up throughout the NFL.
According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, the Texans are signing linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill to a one-year contract worth $3.25 million.
Grugier-Hill spent the 2020 season with the Miami Dolphins, racking up 28 combined tackles, a tackle for loss, 1.0 sack, and a fumble recovery in his 15 games played, one of which he started.
The former New England Patriots 2016 sixth-round pick from Eastern Illinois played from 2016-19 with the Philadelphia Eagles, appearing in 54 games and starting in 16 of them. Grugier-Hill notched 98 combined tackles, 1.0 sack, 11 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, two pass breakups, and an interception.
Grugier-Hill played 237 snaps on special teams for the Dolphins compared to 207 on defense. Although Grugier-Hill may be one of the better coverage linebackers in the league, he provides the Texans with quality depth in the transition phase of the game to help Houston find an edge.
