Report: Tennessee Titans ‘not in the mix’ for Dante Fowler

The Titans are reportedly “not in the mix” for Dante Fowler.

Now that the Tennessee Titans have cleared up extra cap space by trading defensive lineman Jurrell Casey to the Denver Broncos, many have speculated (myself included) that a big move for a pass-rusher is coming.

One of the two big names in the free-agent market at the position is Dante Fowler, but according to Terry McCormick of Titan Insider, the Titans “are not in the mix” for the 25-year-old.

So, if that’s the case then speculation will lead down the road of the team possibly signing Jadeveon Clowney, which would make more sense for a very specific reason.

And that reason is that Titans head coach Mike Vrabel prefers to have players he knows well.

Clowney would certainly qualify as one of those guys after playing under Vrabel in 2017 when he was the Houston Texans’ defensive coordinator. That was also the season in which Clowney totaled a career-high 9.5 sacks.

The only part that doesn’t entirely add up is the Titans signing Vic Beasley also, who is likely to assume the role as a pass-rushing outside linebacker, which is where you’d figure Clowney would go.

It’s entirely possible that Clowney could end up on the defensive line, as he’s been moved all around the defense during his time in the NFL.
