Offensive Lineman Ted Karras is on the move. The former Patriot is taking his talents to South Beach and joining the Miami Dolphins on a one-year deal worth $4 million, according to The Athletic’s Jeff Howe.
Karras joins former Patriot Kyle Van Noy, who just signed a four-year contract, in Miami. He’ll also be reunited with head coach Brian Flores who was in New England for the first three years of Karras’ career.
Karras was selected by the Patriots in the sixth round of the 2016 draft and spent a few years finding his role in the NFL. Eventually, he found a home as a versatile backup on the interior, playing both guard and center at different points. He was even given some snaps at tackle in a pinch.
Ted Karras has agreed to a one-year, $4 million contract with the Dolphins, per source.

Last year, Karras came into his own in an emergency situation, replacing center David Andrews following his season-ending blood clot diagnosis. While the offensive line did have problems last year, Karras was better than expected and held his own in a crucial moment.
Now, Karras will join a Dolphins offensive line that needs a center after the Dolphins declined to pick up Daniel Kilgore’s option. He could come in and compete right away, but a $4 million commitment doesn’t guarantee him the spot. He’ll need to earn it.
Back in New England, Andrews’ health is still in question, however, it feels like he will play. There isn’t really a backup center currently on the roster, so the Patriots will either need to re-sign James Ferentz who played a few snaps last year and made one start at the position while Karras was injured or address the need with someone new.
