The Carrier Dome is unique in that houses both football and basketball games for Syracuse. Carrier Global Corporation has held the naming rights to the venue since it opened in 1979. Now, Orange fans will be attending games there under a different name. Carrier and Syracuse reportedly have chosen to part ways, and JMA Wireless will take over the naming rights at a date yet to be determined.
Notre Dame’s men’s basketball team has played at the venue numerous times over the years, even before the Irish joined the ACC. The Irish possess an all-time record of 8-13 there and have not beaten a ranked Orange team on their court since 1992.
The Notre Dame football program has played there only once. It came at the end of the 2003 season, which was a trying one for the Irish. A 38-12 loss snapped their three-game winning streak and ended Tyrone Willingham’s second season as coach at 5-7.
