The North Carolina Tar Heels are still in pursuit of a five-star prospect in the 2024 class, despite having four commitments. But with reclassification rumors swirling, a target could make the jump to 2023 as well.
Five-star forward Jarin Stevenson is among the top players in the 2024 class and is a candidate to move into the 2023 class. With UNC having scholarships available, it could make sense for the North Carolina native to join the Tar Heels right away.
Stevenson has seven offers and is being pursued by UNC, Virginia, Georgetown, Alabama and Missouri. He has taken four visits, but one Virginia reporter believes he could make one to UNC before making a decision. Here is what Jerry Ratcliffe had to say:
Stevenson has made official visits to Virginia, Georgetown, Missouri and Alabama (last weekend), and is likely to visit UNC next week. Then it’s decision time for the Stevenson family, who will determine whether to reclassify to the present recruiting class of 2023 or remain in the ‘24 class.
The recruit will have to make a decision in the coming weeks with programs welcoming in recruits for the summer in June.
As of now, there’s no concrete evidence Stevenson will reclassify or pick UNC. But at one point, he was considered a strong UNC lean, and the fact it is still recruiting him is a good sign.
