Report: Steph Curry scrimmaged in practice, fully cleared for contact

Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry has taken a key step in returning to the floor.

With the Golden State Warriors having 26 regular season games left, Steph Curry has taken a key step in returning to the floor.

According to The Athletic’s Anthony Slater, Warriors coach Steve Kerr said Curry has been fully cleared for contact. Kerr said Curry scrimmaged during Saturday’s practice and that it was the first scrimmage Curry participated in as he works to return to the floor.

Curry has missed 52 games this season because of a broken left hand injury he suffered in early November. In four games, Curry has scored 20.3 points per game and dished 6.5 assists.

The Warriors have the NBA’s worst record at 12-44, but with Curry expected to return in March, he could energize the young squad. As arguably the best shooter ever, Curry draws as much attention as any star the league has had.

Athletic players like Andrew Wiggins and Marquese Chriss stand to benefit the most from Curry’s return. Wiggins is a slasher, and he will have more space to drive and cut because of Curry’s shooting ability. Chriss has emerged as a viable rim runner, and he’s already shown his ability to catch lobs and throw down dunks from the weak side.

The Warriors will play the second game of their four-game homestand Sunday against the New Orleans Pelicans.
