Report: Steelers to use franchise tag on LB Bud Dupree

Pittsburgh hasn’t given up on keeping Bud Dupree this season.

Despite having very little salary cap space to work with, the Pittsburgh Steelers have not given up on finding a way to keep outside linebacker Bud Dupree. It is being reported by ESPN reporter Jenna Laine that the Steelers are going to use the franchise tag on Dupree in hopes of keeping him.

Dupree had a breakout season in 2019. He finished with a career-high 11.5 sacks and paired with T.J. Watt to form the most potent pass-rushing tandem in the NFL.

Putting the tag on Dupree puts the Steelers a little over $14 million over the cap. This means Pittsburgh is going to have to get very creative to fit everyone in.
