Report: Steelers sign DB off Jaguars practice squad

The Steelers are signing safety Terrell Edmunds away from the Jaguars’ practice squad and to their active roster, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Monday afternoon.

Edmunds was Pittsburgh’s first-round selection in the 2018 NFL draft. He spent five seasons with the Steelers and split the 2023 campaign between Philadelphia and Tennessee, before signing with Jacksonville in May.

Despite his seven tackles and two forced fumbles in the preseason, Jacksonville released Edmunds during NFL roster cutdowns in August and signed him to their practice squad.

With safety Daniel Thomas ruled out of Week 1 with an Achilles injury, Edmunds was promoted to the Jaguars’ active roster via standard elevation Saturday ahead of Jacksonville’s season-opening, 20-17 loss at Miami on Sunday.

Edmunds logged six snaps against the Dolphins and did not record a statistic.

Over 96 career appearances, Edmunds has accumulated 458 total tackles including 17 for loss, 7.5 sacks, six interceptions, 28 defended passes and one forced fumble.

Jacksonville now has one opening on its practice squad.
