According to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, the Pittsburgh Steelers are not expected to pursue a trade for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.
Watson is currently embroiled in a legal matter involving sexual misconduct but on Friday a grand jury determined there would not be criminal charges involved.
Many Steelers fans and even some members of the media are been on board with the notion that Watson would be a trade target for Pittsburgh. But the reality is given his off-field issues and the familiarity with these sorts of issues should be enough to scare off the Steelers. This team and the fanbase lived through the Ben Roethlisberger fiasco and don’t want to do it again.
Even if Watson doesn’t face criminal charges, the league is going to suspend him for a chunk of the 2022 season. This hurts his trade value and Pittsburgh needs to hit the ground running next season.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have not and are not expected to be a player in the Deshaun Watson trade market, according to multiple league sources.
