Report: Sixers interested in acquiring Jazz big man Jarred Vanderbilt

The Philadelphia 76ers have shown an interest in acquiring Jarred Vanderbilt from the Utah Jazz in a deal.

The Philadelphia 76ers are trying to upgrade their roster with the Feb. 9 trade deadline right around the corner. As one of the more talented teams in the league, they don’t have many needs. But they could definitely use an upgrade at the backup center position.

With it being deadline season, plenty of names will pop up as being on the radar of the Sixers. One such player is Minnesota Timberwolves big man Naz Reid, who would be a nice addition to the bench unit.

Now, another player has popped up. Yahoo! Sports’ Jake Fischer reports Philadelphia is very much interested in Utah Jazz big man Jarred Vanderbilt:

Vanderbilt’s name has also appeared amid the trade deadline conversation surrounding reserve big men, most notably with the Philadelphia 76ers, sources told Yahoo Sports. While teams like the Indiana Pacers have viewed the 6-foot-9 Vanderbilt as an attractive option at power forward, Vanderbilt has been described by league personnel as a leading target in Philadelphia’s quest to fortify its frontcourt reserves behind Joel Embiid.

Vanderbilt is a little undersized at 6-foot-9, but he is very athletic and he has a high motor around the rim. He’s averaging 8.3 points and 7.9 rebounds in 24.1 minutes per game with the Jazz. Considering Utah would probably rather rebuild than compete for a lower playoff spot, maybe the Sixers could get him cheap before Thursday’s deadline.
