Report: Sixers give Rockets permission to interview Sam Cassell

The Philadelphia 76ers have given the Houston Rockets permission to interview Sam Cassell for their head coaching position.

It is already the offseason for some teams around the league, which means it’s time to prepare for next season. The Philadelphia 76ers are not one of those teams. They have their eyes set on a championship run, but other teams are looking to them regarding their coaching vacancies.

The Houston Rockets, who finished the season 22-60, are looking for a new coach after letting Stephen Silas go after three seasons.

Per Jonathan Feign of The Houston Chronicle, the Sixers have given the Rockets permission to interview Sam Cassell for the position. Cassell has been an assistant coach under Doc Rivers since the 2014-15 season with the Los Angeles Clippers before following him to Philadelphia.

Cassell played for the Rockets in his first three seasons in the NBA, and he helped Houston win a championship in 1994 and 1995. He was an All-Star in 2004 while with the Minnesota Timberwolves, and he has been a key piece of this Sixers team in terms of developing Tyrese Maxey and working with the team’s guards.
