The coaching staff of the Philadelphia 76ers continues to undergo changes this offseason. The Sixers moved on from Doc Rivers after three seasons and replaced him with Nick Nurse.
Now, they will lose a highly regarded assistant in the process.
Per Shams Charania, Sam Cassell, who was an assistant under Rivers in all three of his seasons in Philadelphia, will leave the Sixers and join the Boston Celtics’ staff of coach Joe Mazzulla.
Cassell won a title with Boston, while Rivers was coaching, in 2008.

Cassell worked closely with Tyrese Maxey, James Harden and the other guards on the roster. He was mentioned as a candidate to replace Rivers as Philadelphia’s head coach before the team hired Nurse. Now, the Sixers lose Cassell’s services to a hated intradivision rival.
