Report: Saints called QB Philip Rivers for potential return

The New Orleans Saints reportedly called Philip Rivers for a potential return.

Former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers reportedly received a call from the New Orleans Saints for a potential return but declined, first reported by the Times-Picayune Advocate’s Jeff Duncan.

Rivers has made it known that he would consider coming back later in the season if the right opportunity presented itself. As the Saints are down their three starting quarterbacks, there has certainly been a need there.

However, Rivers opted to instead stay with his family over Christmas.

Rivers showed during his one season with the Colts that he still can command a quick-passing offense and make plays that help a team make the playoffs.

With the Colts in 2020, Rivers completed 68.0% of his passes for 4,169 yards, 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while helping lead the Colts to an 11-5 record and a wild-card berth.

Since his retirement, Rivers has been coaching high school football in Alabama.
