Ron Rivera tells me that Ryan Kerrigan is part of the Redskins plan for 2020

Like Brandon Scherff, it appears that the Washington Redskins have no intention of getting rid of veteran edge-rusher Ryan Kerrigan ahead of the 2020 season, even if they draft Chase Young with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Kerrigan, who is owed $11 million this season in the last year of his contract, is expected to work out an extension with the Redskins that would lengthen his stay in Washington, get him more guaranteed money, and lighten the cap-hit for the team. Everybody wins. It was reported earlier that Kerrigan and his reps are meeting with the Redskins this week at the NFL Combine, though it wasn’t been reported when that meeting will take place.
It’s hard to imagine that the Redskins will keep Kerrigan around on his current contract, as the again rusher may be moved to a situational role, where an $11 million cap hit seems a bit pricey. It should also be noted that Kerrigan ended his 2019 season the IR after having his consecutive game streak broken at 139 games.
Rivera’s statement that Kerrigan is in their future plans, though, supports the idea that the two parties will work to reach an extension soon, and the Redskins’ best player will stick around in Washington for years to come.
