Former #Panthers coach Ron Rivera has emerged as a top coaching candidate & has told people he expects a deal to come together quickly, sources say. It could even be 24 hours after Week 17 ends. The #Redskins have interest, tho other teams without openings yet are also circling.

It won’t take former Panthers head coach Ron Rivera to find his next job in the NFL. According to Ian Rapoport at NFL Network, the Redskins are interested in hiring him.
If they hire Rivera, it’d be a little ironic since Washington is the team that got him fired. While a lot led up to it, Carolina’s mortifying loss to the Redskins Week 13 was the last straw for team owner David Tepper, who fired Rivera two days later.
Interim head coach Bill Callahan has done a decent job since Jay Gruden was dismissed earlier this season. However, it will be tough for Rivera or any other coach to mold Washington into a contender anytime soon. There will be other, more attractive jobs out there.
The Redskins’ interest might be a preemptive effort to get ahead of the Cowboys, who may finally decide to move on from Jason Garrett and would make an excellent fit for Rivera. Jacksonville, Cleveland and the Giants are also potential landing spots.
