Report: Redskins in contract talks with Brandon Scherff for 2020 season

The Redskins are working to reach an agreement on contract extensions with Brandon Scherff, though he might be franchise-tagged this season.

According to JP Finlay at NBC Sports Washington, the plan in Washington is for Brandon Scherff to stick around with the Redskins for the future.

That’s good news for the offensive line, but it can happen in a couple of different ways, and it will likely start with Scherff being franchise-tagged for the 2020 season. While Scherff is secured for the current season, the two parties will reportedly work to get a long-term deal done to keep Scherff around for the future.

What this means for the rest of the offensive line is unclear. There is always the looking outcome of whatever happens with Trent Williams and his potential return to the team, and the Redskins also have to decide what they want to do with Ereck Flowers at LG. With Scherff seemingly in place for the 2020 season, though, the Redskins have a core piece back on the front line, though, and they can build from there.
