Report: Rams offered Cam Akers, 4 draft picks for Christian McCaffrey

The Rams’ final trade offer for Christian McCaffrey included Cam Akers and multiple draft picks.

It was known that the Los Angeles Rams were trying to acquire Christian McCaffrey via trade from the Carolina Panthers before the San Francisco 49ers landed the All-Pro running back. And now that the deal between Carolina and San Francisco is done, reports about what the Rams offered have surfaced.

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer reported that the final offer the Rams sent to the Panthers for McCaffrey included Cam Akers and four draft picks.

The Rams’ final offer: second- and third-rounders in 2023, fourth- and fifth-rounders in ’24 and Cam Akers. The Bills were also in it until the end—sort of. Buffalo called early, as we said, and kept tabs on the situation throughout, which was easy enough with the strong ties between the Bills’ and Panthers’ front offices. In the end, the asking price never came down to the point where Buffalo was compelled to make a hard offer.

The Rams have been fielding trade offers for Akers and they’ve likely been shopping him to teams in hopes to start fresh. The Panthers could’ve had no interest in acquiring Akers in the trade or Breer pointed out that the Rams’ lack of a fourth-round pick in 2023 led to the 49ers having the better offer.

Regardless of who was going to land McCaffrey, it was going to take quite a haul for the Panthers to part with him. For the Rams, they sent a final offer to the Panthers with Akers included, and the 49ers upped their offer to get a deal done.

Despite Akers not being enough to move the needle in favor of Los Angeles when it came to a trade for McCaffrey, he’s still expected to be traded before the trade deadline next month.
