REPORT: Raiders trade for Dolphins LB Raekwon McMillan

If we have learned anything about the Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden era with the Raiders, it’s that they are going to be aggressive in the trade market. Over the last year, we have seen the two execute numerous trades and they aren’t afraid to give away late-round picks for proven veterans.

The Raiders made another move on Saturday morning, bringing in more linebacker depth by acquiring Raekwon McMillian, formerly of the Miami Dolphins. That move was announced by Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Raiders are surrendering a 2021 fourth-round pick in exchange for McMillan and 2021 fifth-round choice.

McMillan was originally a second-round pick by the Dolphins in the 2017 NFL Draft and has since started 28 games for Miami. Over there last two seasons, he has totaled 177 tackles and eight tackles for a loss. According to Pro Football Focus, McMillan graded out as the No. 32 linebacker in the NFL, excelling as a run defender.

It is worth noting that Mayock graded McMillian as his 72nd-best player in the 2017 NFL Draft, ranking him as his ninth-best linebacker in the class. According to 3sigmaathlete.com, he tested as an average athlete at the NFL Combine, running a 4.61 40-yard dash at 240 pounds.

McMillan gives the Raiders more linebacker depth as the team looks to continue to improve their front seven. It will be fascinating to see how he fits into the defense as the Raiders have already added players such as Cory Littleton, Nick Kwiatkoski and Tanner Muse this offseason. If nothing else, McMillan is a veteran who can contribute on running downs, if needed.
