REPORT: QB Tom Brady isn’t expected to return to Patriots, could Raiders be interested?

We are still three weeks away from free agency, but everyone knows the NFL Scouting Combine is where the deals happen. With every general manager and agent in attendance, Indianapolis is where things get done and where the rumors heat up.

The latest one involves the greatest quarterback in the history of the NFL in Tom Brady. According to ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, he would be “stunned” if Brady returned to New England as he is set to hit the free-agent market for the first time in his career.

On Tuesday, general manager Mike Mayock made an interesting comment about Derek Carr, saying that he likes that Carr’s contract has “no guaranteed money left.” Essentially, what that means is the Raiders can move on at any point without any dead cap hit.

If Brady were finally open to leaving New England, there is no doubt that Mayock and Jon Gruden would be interested in bringing the six-time Super Bowl champion in. Earlier this month, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Raiders would be interested in Brady if he were available in free agency.

While Brady obviously wouldn’t be a long-term option in Las Vegas, it would signal that Mayock and Gruden believe they have a roster that is ready to compete right now.

Over the next several weeks, the Brady saga will continue to dominate the headlines until he chooses where he will play in 2020. But if you are just asking me, it still seems unlikely that Brady will leave New England.
