The New England Patriots are prioritizing the development of rookie quarterback Drake Maye this season.
They have even gone as far as seeking outside help on how to handle a young quarterback, per a report from NFL insider Albert Breer.
The Patriots were in a similar situation when they used a first-round draft pick on Mac Jones in 2021, and the Alabama product struggled after a stellar rookie season.
“They have done some research over the last few weeks on how to handle a young quarterback,” said Breer. “Obviously, they failed with Mac Jones, from 2021 through 2023. So, the Krafts have asked people and done their homework on how the right way to handle a young quarterback is, and how they’re going to do that going forward.”
This report signifies the Patriots’ willingness to do whatever it takes to ensure Maye’s development process goes as smoothly as possible. Time will tell how the rest of the season plays out for the young quarterback.
