Report: Patriots signing former fourth-round pick QB to practice squad

The Patriots are reportedly adding to their quarterback room.

A fourth quarterback is joining the room for the New England Patriots after the team reportedly signed former fourth-round draft pick Ian Book to the practice squad.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported the news on Wednesday through a source.

The Patriots already have Mac Jones as the starter, and ahead of the season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, they signed Bailey Zappe back to the main roster. With Matt Corral on the reserve/left squad list, Book will be joining Malik Cunningham as the two practice squad quarterbacks.

Book has one start on his resume when he was with the New Orleans Saints back in 2021 against the Miami Dolphins. He was a rookie at the time, and the results were disastrous—12 completed passes for 135 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions.

The Saints waived him the following year, and he was then claimed off waivers by the Philadelphia Eagles, who ultimately waived him as well.

Perhaps the third time will be the charm for Book, who will look to play his way into a roster role with a Patriots team that had two simultaneous quarterback projects already going behind Jones.
