Report: Patriots not sold on idea of reuniting with Jimmy Garoppolo

The New England Patriots are not keen on the idea of reuniting with Jimmy Garoppolo

The Patriots are looking for a quarterback for the 2021 season. However, they are not enthused about a a reunion with a former player.

According to Greg Bedard of the Boston Sports Journal, the Patriots are concerned with Jimmy Garoppolo’s injury history.

Garoppolo has missed 25 starts due to injuries over the course of his career. Durability and toughness seems to be major concerns for the organization. and with the Patriots needing stability at the position, those could be two key traits they look for a future quarterback.

The Patriots selected Garoppolo in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Serving as the backup to Tom Brady, he won two super Bowls with the organization.

“Yes, the Patriots would very much be open to reuniting with Garoppolo, but don’t expect them to appear desperate. Garoppolo’s lack of durability is an issue with the team and could make them play hardball with the contract. There are questions internally about how tough Garoppolo is, ultimately. Especially in comparison to Tom Brady. It doesn’t get any tougher than that.

“Jimmy’s not exactly as tough as you would like,” said one source.

It will be interesting to see what the Patriots do to sure up the position. As for now, it doesn’t look like they will be in on the Jimmy Garoppolo sweepstakes anytime soon.
