Report: Patriots hosting local prospects for pre-draft visit

The Patriots are hosting local college prospects on Thursday.

The New England Patriots are hosting local prospects from New England-based schools on Thursday, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

In addition, players who are New England natives but also play out of the region were invited as well. Some of the more interesting notes about this day included Rhode Island being well-represented at the showcase. They have five players at the event in total.

Boston College is also represented at the event, and they are the largest school locally represented.

Some of the more notable players attending on Thursday include Wisconsin cornerback Jason Maitre and Northwestern linebacker Bryce Gallagher.

Maitre recorded 33 tackles, one interception and three pass breakups last season.

Gallagher was a major contributor on Northwestern’s defense, tallying 100 tackles, 1.5 sacks, an interception and a forced fumble in 11 games played.

There is a strong contingent of local prospects in the NFL draft this year. One has to wonder if  the Patriots will hone in on any of them in the coming weeks.
