Report: Patriots assistant Steve Belichick interviewing for college job

Patriots outside linebackers coach Steve Belichick is reportedly interviewing for another defensive job on Friday

New England Patriots outside linebackers coach Steve Belichick is reportedly interviewing for a defensive job at the University of Washington on Friday, per ESPN’s Field Yates.

There were rumblings that Patriots coach Jerod Mayo extended both of Bill Belichick’s sons, Steve and Brian, job opportunities to stay in New England. But Steve’s upcoming interview could mean he’s looking to move in a different direction.

Washington is working to put a coaching staff around Jedd Fisch after Kalen DeBoer left for the University of Alabama as the replacement for legendary coach Nick Saban, who retired after the 2023 season.

Along with Steve Belichick, former Patriots running backs coach Vinnie Sunseri is also interviewing for a defensive coaching job at Washington.

A fresh start could be a good thing for Belichick as he continues to work his way through the coaching ranks.

The Patriots have already addressed the major staff positions with DeMarcus Covington being promoted as defensive coordinator, along with Alex Van Pelt being hired as offensive coordinator and Jeremy Springer being the special teams coaching hire.
