There will be a lot of player movement today around the NFL as teams trim their rosters down to 53 and try to fill their holes before the 2020 season begins next week.
According to a report by Albert Breer at Sports Illustrated, Panthers wide receiver Seth Roberts is one of the players who has been brought up in trade talks.
Cutdown's tomorrow. Here are guys raised in trade talks …
• Bills WR Robert Foster
• Panthers WR Seth Roberts
• Bills TE Jason Croom
• Jets C Jonathan Harrison
• Saints DL Sheldon Rankins
• Eagles CB Rasul Douglas
• Eagles CB Sidney Jones
• Washington OLB Ryan Anderson— Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) September 5, 2020
Roberts signed a one-year, $3.75 million deal with the Panthers in March.
Carolina overpaid for Roberts and would likely have to eat part if that salary in any trade. It’s unlikely he would have a big impact on offense in any case and they have plenty of depth at receiver to afford losing him.
The Athletic reported recently that the team is calling about secondary help, so Roberts might be a piece in those discussions. The Panthers could also use some help at tight end, especially if the toe injury to Ian Thomas is worse than they are letting on.
