The Carolina Panthers might really have to be moved in order to move their best player.
The Athletic senior NFL insider Diana Russini dished out some of the latest trade deadline buzz on Saturday. Amongst the nuggets she’s currently hearing is a not-so-surprising detail on outside linebacker Brian Burns.
Russini writes:
The Carolina Panthers have been actively calling as buyers and sellers over the last few weeks. Carolina permitted wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. to seek a trade and will listen on safety Jeremy Chinn. The young safety is dealing with a quad injury that could get him back on the field by December, a team source shared with The Athletic. This injury could make a trade undesirable for another team, but the player is still considered available. As for the best Panthers pass rusher Brian Burns, I do not get the sense Carolina is expecting to trade him, but they have been getting calls on him.
Considering that Carolina remains the NFL’s only winless team at 0-6, it’s not exactly a shocker if teams are inquiring about the two-time Pro Bowl pass rusher just ahead of the trade deadline. Heck, the Los Angeles Rams may have done as much last year—when they reportedly offered two first-round picks and a second for him when the Panthers were struggling.
Plus, the fact that Burns and the Panthers have still not reached a contract extension probably raises some doubts about his long-term future with the organization.
So, you might as well call—but just don’t except a ring back.
