According to a report by Josina Anderson at ESPN, the Panthers and Chargers are discussing a potential trade for Russell Okung.

Okung was a first-round pick by Seattle back in 2010. He is best known for being their starting left tackle during the peak years when Russell Wilson was on his rookie contract. Okung started 72 games for the Seahawks in six years, then he played one season for the Broncos, followed by the last three with the Chargers.

Consider us confused by this news. Okung has been to the Pro Bowl twice. However, he’s now 32 years old and trading for him doesn’t really mesh with the whole idea of the rebuild.

It’s possible the Panthers’ decision makers aren’t confident about Greg Little’s ability to play left tackle given the injury issues he had as a rookie. It’s too early to write him off, though and trading for one as old as Okung makes no sense, especially when the 2020 draft class is particularly deep at offensive tackle.
