Dan Lanning has likely gotten pretty used to seeing his position coaches and coordinators take off for new jobs over the past few years, with many using their time with the Oregon Ducks to level up and further their career aspirations, whether that’s as a head coach or a coordinator.
However, it looks like the Ducks are going to be able to hold onto one of their best coaches this cycle.
According to 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz, Oregon’s RB coach Ra’Shaad Samples has informed Lanning and the Ducks that he will be sticking in Eugene rather than taking over as the next head coach at Sam Houston.
Last week, it was reported that Samples, a Texas native with strong ties in the state, was among the finalists for the Sam Houston job. After being in Eugene for less than a year, though, Samples will remain with the Ducks, at least for the time being.
While Samples is turning down the Sam Houston job, don’t be shocked to see him leave for another job in the future. Samples is considered one of the top young coaches in the game, and is expected to be a head coach at a college program in short order.
