Collision as AEW’s next weekly show is wrestling’s worst-kept secret. Rumors have floated for months about when the show will premiere, who will be featured on it, and how prominent it will be compared to other AEW programs.
Well, after months of anticipation, AEW is expected to announce Collision at the Warner Bros. Discovery Upfronts this month, according to Fightful Select (subscription required but recommended). Collision is an extension of AEW’s positive relationship with Warner Bros. Discovery, and the show’s reveal was the planned announcement all along, despite rumors of an all-encompassing deal for AEW’s shows.
To enhance Collision’s debut show, Fightful Select also said that “major plans and a marquee match” are tentatively scheduled. This includes CM Punk “pushing for a huge match” soon after his comeback but with someone other than Chris Jericho.
The report also notes that rumors of Warner Bros. Discovery’s potential interest in WWE, which could have been one of pro wrestling’s juiciest rumblings, were quickly shot down.
Warner Bros. Discovery’s Upfronts take place on May 17, so long-awaited answers for AEW Collision are finally near. The new show is all but certain to take place on Saturday nights, making the question about what timeslot it will receive next. It could even include CM Punk’s return being announced, though that’s better saved to happen on Dynamite.
Collision is part of a frantic, exciting summer for AEW, which also includes Double or Nothing, Forbidden Door, All In at Wembley Stadium and All Out just one week later. AEW will make plenty of announcements and have major moments as they enter a critical period in their history. They have done plenty, with Collision as the latest step in their establishment in the pro wrestling industry. So when the show’s announcement happens, it will be another landmark day for them.
